The listing, which came to market after nearly six years since the restaurant's closure, presents a 3,872 square foot, bi-level venue plus an 880 square foot private patio at 3823 30th Street in North Park, under new ownership and priced at $17,000 per month plus NNN. The unit is being leased by local commercial real estate brokerage, Next Wave Commercial. Ìý

Urban Solace, opened by Chef Matt Gordon in 2007, was renowned for its inventive take on comfort food, quickly becoming a neighborhood staple and a beacon for North Park's burgeoning dining culture. Gordon's vision for the restaurant included not just culinary excellence but also a community-centric atmosphere, which contributed to its success and reputation.Ìý
Urban Solace's journey took an unexpected turn when, on March 12, 2019, Gordon announced the closure of both Urban Solace and its sister restaurant, Solace & The Moonlight Lounge in Encinitas, effective after their last dinner service on March 13, 2019. This decision was made amidst challenges including the rising costs of running a restaurant in California and a broader critique of the evolving restaurant culture dominated by social media.

Following the closures, Gordon swiftly moved on to new ventures. By March 26, 2019, he had joined Blue Bridge Hospitality in Coronado, taking on the role of Vice President of Operations, managing both front and back of house for their extensive portfolio. His first project there was to transform West Pac Noodle Bar into Little Frenchie, a Parisian bistro.

Gordon's time in California was not to last. In May 2024, he announced his departure from the state, moving to Washington to start a new chapter as the Corporate Deli Manager at Costco Wholesale. His departure was marked by a nostalgic farewell to San Diego, where he had spent nearly two decades of his life.

The former Urban Solace space now listed for lease on one of North Park's busiest blocks is an opportunity for new culinary entrepreneurs or businesses to bring their vision to this vibrant community. With its history of hosting a beloved restaurant, the property is not only a commercial space but also carries a legacy of community gathering and innovation in dining.
