Earlier this year, restaurateur and chef Matt Gordon announced that he would be reconceptualizing his 11-year-old Urban Solace in North Park to add breakfast service with a small-plate and cocktail focus at night, but that revamp has been short-lived. Gordon took to social media and emailed friends today to announce that he would be closing both of his restaurants after dinner service tomorrow, Wednesday, March 13.
Chef Matt Gordon has been in the restaurant industry for more than two decades, heading the kitchens at numerous acclaimed restaurants before opening Urban Solace in San Diego's North Park in 2007. With a menu centered around stylized comfort foods, Urban Solace became an immediate hit and upped the bar for the local hospitality industry.ÌýIn 2011, Gordon brought his Southern flare to Encinitas with the opening of Solace & The Moonlight Lounge. In 2013, Gordon opened Sea & Smoke in Del Mar's Flower Hill Promenade but closed the restaurant in early 2016. Gordon has been an outspoken critic of the Instagram culture and has warned about the rising costs of operating a restaurant in California.
