Little Italy's Born & Raised Launches Streetside Burger Pop-Up

August 11, 2020

This past weekend, the team behind San Diego's Born & Raised launched a new streetside burger pop-up eatery. FKD Burger is now serving in Little Italy.

Starting this past Saturday, local hospitality group Consortium Holdings repurposed the area in front of its Born & Raised restaurant for the launch of FKD Burger, which stands for "Fat Kids Delight." FKD serves a handful of burgers, like the signature FKD burger with an American Wagyu patty, Havarti cheese, summer black truffles, truffle aioli on a charcoal bun. There is also a tableside Caesar salad and a variety of sides and burger add on, including butter poached lobster and smoked trout roe. As for beverages, the al-fresco eatery offers an array of cocktails, beer, and wine by the glass.Ìý

"We really did not think putting Born out on the street was the right thing to do, as it should be enjoyed in the restaurant, but we knew we had to think about ways of generating revenue with what we have to work with," explained Consortium Holdings Partner & Chef Jason McLeod. "We love burgers and we thought that it stays close to what Born is - a steak house serving meat of course.ÌýWe also loved the idea of drinking a martini with a delicious burger."

Consortium Holdings has been creative during the COVID-19 pandemic.ÌýAfter closing for a few months during the height of the pandemic, the company relaunched its Craft & Commerce concept in San Diego's Little Italy with a limited-time tribute menu devoted to fast food favorites. The popular restaurant groupÌýis also in the process of renovating its original Soda & Swine location in North Park to become Fortunate Son, a modern Chinese restaurant.

FKD Burger is open Monday through Thursday from 4:30-10pm and Friday through Sunday from noon to 10pm in front of Born & Raised Steakhouse at 1909 India Street in San Diego's Little Italy. No reservations are required. For more information, check out the launch menu below.Ìý
