The latest in a string of longterm San Diego restaurants to close in 2019, Brooklyn Girl in Mission Hills has announced that it will serve its last meals this weekend.
Brooklyn Girl owners Michael and Victoria McGeath got into the restaurant game by opening Fio's Cucina Italiana on Fifth Avenue in 1989, one of the first upscale dining spots in the Gaslamp. In 1994 they opened Trattoria Acqua in La Jolla. After 17 years in La Jolla, in 2011 the husband and wife duo took their passion for culinary revival to Mission Hills with Brooklyn Girl. The restaurant has been listed for sale since at least fall 2016.
"Sadly, Sunday, March 31st will be the last day Brooklyn Girl will be serving food," read a post to Brooklyn Girl's Facebook Page. It is with sadness yet an abundance of gratitude to all our guests that have graced our doors, to the friends we have made along the way, to our regulars that have supported us throughout the years and to our amazing crew that has put their heart and soul into this restaurant. We will be open tonight for dinner and Sunday for brunch and dinner. We would love to see everyone to personally say goodbye! We will be discounting all bottles of wine 25% both days, perhaps to raise a glass one last time to BG."
Other seasoned area restaurants closing or closed in 2019 include 52 year old Paesanos Fine Italian Food, North Park pioneer Urban Solace, and what was considered San Diego's oldest restaurant, Pekin Cafe Chop Suey. Just this week, we announced the closures of Anthem Vegan in North Park, The Patio on 101 in Encinitas, East Village's Brooklyn Bagel & Bialy, andÌýPisco Rotisserie & Cevicheria in Liberty Station.Ìý
