Oscar’s Mexican Seafood To Close Original Location In San Diego's Pacific Beach

After 14 years of serving the North Pacific Beach community, Oscar's Mexican Seafood, a beloved San Diego staple for seafood tacos and mariscos, has announced the impending closure of its original location.

Since opening in 2011 under owner Juan Bernardo Montes de Oca, Oscar's Mexican Seafood has been a cornerstone of the local mariscos scene, offering fresh seafood tacos, ceviches, and tortas that earned it a spot on Yelp's Top 100 Places to Eat in the U.S. in 2016 and a feature on Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations.

The closure at 703 Turquoise Street, set for May 20, 2025, is reportedly due to the lease not being renewed. This marks another chapter in the chain's evolving history, which has seen expansions and closures, including a brief Ocean Beach stint that transitioned into Mike's Taco Club and an Encinitas outpost that shuttered in 2018, as well as the East Village location that closed in October 2019 after opening in March 2016.
Oscar's renewed Emerald Street location
In a recent announcement, Oscar's expressed gratitude to its loyal customers and outlined plans to maintain its presence in the region. The newly remodeled Emerald Street location at 746 Emerald Street, near Ocean Front Walk in Pacific Beach, will reopen in the coming days after several months of renovation, offering a refreshed space to continue serving the community's favorite dishes. The Hillcrest location at 646 University Avenue remains operational, ensuring uninterrupted access to Oscar’s high-quality Mexican seafood. The Turquoise St. site will operate until its closing date, with special events and updates shared via Instagram.
