Originally established in 1913, Mission Brewery was revived in 2007 and became a fixture in San Diego’s East Village, operating out of the historic Wonder Bread building near Petco Park. In 2021, the company underwent an ownership transition when it was acquired by a California-based holding company led by Kenneth Little, with former Anheuser-Busch executive Dan Partelow stepping in as CEO. Since then, the brewery has been actively expanding its footprint, including the addition of a satellite tasting room in Kensington in 2023 and the acquisition of Rough Draft Brewing facilities last June.
Mission Brewery's new Sorrento Valley location features a 1,000-square-foot public tasting room with a front patio, while the remaining 5,000 square feet is dedicated to production and office space. The new site replaces Rough Draft's former brewery and will serve as Mission’s primary production hub as the company transitions out of its long-time East Village facility, which remains open for now, including its upstairs private event space.
A large mural featuring the Mission Brewing name against a nautical San Diego backdrop will greet guests, and a brick facade applied to the cooler pays homage to the brewery's historic Wonder Bread location. Inside, cozy leather booth seating will mirror the aesthetic of Mission's other taprooms. With 24 taps at the new tasting room, the expanded brewing space will allow Mission to increase its production of small-batch, experimental, and R&D beers, rotating these selections across all of its locations.
The opening of the Miramar location is the latest in a series of expansions for Mission Brewery. Following its acquisition of Rough Draft Brewing, Mission has taken over multiple locations, including a tasting room at Brewer's Deck inside the Sky Deck restaurant collective in Del Mar Highlands Town Center and a taproom inside the Mesa Nueva student-housing complex on the University of California San Diego campus.
Mission Brewery's new tasting room officially opens on Friday, February 28, at 8830 Rehco Road, Suite D, in San Diego's Sorrento Valley. For more information, visit .
