Situated near Trader Joe’s, the restaurant will be the 21st Chick-fil-A in the region and the second in the Point Loma area, joining the existing location on Sports Arena Boulevard. Unlike many Chick-fil-A locations, the Liberty Station restaurant will not feature a drive-thru. Guests can enjoy Chick-fil-A’s signature offerings, including the original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich, waffle fries, and fresh salads. Orders can be placed for dine-in or pickup, and through the Chick-fil-A App or online. Ìý
The company has been experimenting with different service models, including mobile-order-only restaurants, such as one recently introduced in New York City. While it has not been confirmed whether the Liberty Station location will adopt similar technology-driven operations, its design is expected to cater to the area's high foot traffic and on-the-go customers.
Matt Hughes, who has operated Chick-fil-A Sports Arena since 2006, will serve as the franchisee for the new Liberty Station location. Hughes, a longtime San Diego resident, began his career with Chick-fil-A as a team member and later participated in the company's Leadership Development Program. In his role, he will oversee the hiring and training of approximately 60 new employees.
In addition to standard restaurant operations, Chick-fil-A has announced local community initiatives tied to the opening. The company has donated $25,000 to Feeding America in support of Feeding San Diego, a local food bank. The Liberty Station location also plans to participate in Chick-fil-A's Shared Table program, which redirects surplus food to local shelters and nonprofits.
Chick-fil-A, originally founded in 1961 by S. Truett Cathy in Hapeville, Georgia, now has more than 3,000 locations across the United States and Canada. Known for pioneering the fried chicken sandwich as a main menu item, the brand has evolved into a major player in fast food, emphasizing its southern-inspired menu, efficiency, and customer service. Chick-fil-A’s religious roots have also sparked both admiration and controversy over the years due to its conservative social stance, though the company has recently sought to soften its image on some social issues.Ìý
