The Genesis Invitational will take place from February 10–16, 2025, just weeks after Torrey Pines hosts the Farmers Insurance Open. This marks a significant moment for San Diego golf, as the city steps in to accommodate one of the PGA Tour's "signature events," offering heightened prestige, a $20 million purse, and more FedEx Cup points compared to the $9.3 million purse at the Farmers Insurance Open.
"We are grateful to Farmers Insurance, Mayor Todd Gloria, the City of San Diego, and the Century Club for extending the invitation to relocate The Genesis Invitational to Torrey Pines," PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said. "Highlighting the resilience of Los Angeles and supporting recovery efforts is what our teams aim to achieve with this relocation."
Tiger Woods also expressed appreciation for the city's efforts: "We look forward to playing on another championship-caliber golf course this year and using the tournament to support those affected by the fires in the Los Angeles area."
The event, which will return to Riviera Country Club in 2026, will incorporate relief initiatives for the Los Angeles community affected by the natural disaster. Further details on these efforts will be announced in the coming weeks.
Hosting The Genesis Invitational highlights Torrey Pines' reputation as a world-class venue. Known for its stunning coastal views, the La Jolla course has been the site of the Farmers Insurance Open since 1968 and hosted the U.S. Open in both 2008 and 2021.
San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria welcomed the tournament with open arms: "It was an honor for the City of San Diego to raise our collective hand to help our neighbors in Los Angeles as they recover from the devastating wildfires. We look forward to welcoming The Genesis Invitational in February and showcasing Torrey Pines to a global audience."
As the PGA Tour prepares for this unique doubleheader in San Diego, the city is set to shine on the world stage, offering not only an exceptional golfing experience but also a chance to rally support for a region in need.
