Mark Zuckerberg's Meta Company Shooting Commercial In San Diego's North Park

In light of the recent wildfires causing disruptions in Los Angeles, Meta Platforms, the tech conglomerate formerly known as Facebook, has decided to relocate its latest commercial shoot to San Diego.Ìý

Scheduled to be filmed in the North Park neighborhood around 3511 Utah Street, this commercial is part of Meta's strategy to engage with audiences through high-profile advertising, following their notable return to the Super Bowl spotlight next month. There is no word on what exactly the commercial being filmed in San Diego will be about.

Dress Code Productions, responsible for managing the location, informed local residents via a notice dated January 17, 2025, that filming will take place from January 24th to January 25th, with preparatory work starting on January 23rd. Homeowners in the vicinity have been advised of street closures and no-parking zones to accommodate the production, which will include restrictions on Utah Street, Myrtle Avenue, Upas Street, and Granada Avenue during the specified times.

This move to San Diego not only highlights the city's growing appeal as a filming location but also underscores the economic benefits such productions bring to local businesses and the community. According to the San Diego Film Office, the city has been actively promoting itself as a film-friendly destination, offering a scenic backdrop without the congestion and high costs associated with Los Angeles.

San Diego's selection as a filming location comes at a time when the city is seeing a surge in film and commercial production activities, with companies like Disney, Warner Brothers, and Netflix also choosing the city for their projects. This trend not only boosts local employment but also enhances San Diego's reputation in the film industry.

San Diego's future as a filming destination was recently bolstered by the announcement of theÌýChula Vista Entertainment ComplexÌý(CVEC), an incoming, $85 million virtual production studio set to open in Chula Vista. This state-of-the-art facility, spearheaded by local filmmaker Aaron David Roberts, promises to bring Hollywood-grade production capabilities to the region. Expected to break ground by the end of 2025, CVEC is anticipated to include advanced technology for virtual production, co-working spaces, and educational facilities to nurture local talent, further cementing San Diego's role in the entertainment industry.

Another upcoming Meta commercial, set to debut during the Super Bowl, features actors Chris Pratt and Chris Hemsworth promoting Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses. This ad campaign follows Meta's previous Super Bowl appearance in 2022, where they showcased their Meta Quest 2 immersive headset through a nostalgic virtual reality setting.

Adding to the intrigue of Meta's presence in San Diego is company founder Mark Zuckerberg's recent activity in the area. Just a few months ago, Zuckerberg's $300 million superyacht, named LAUNCHPAD,Ìýwas docked in Downtown San Diego Bay, accompanied by his $30 million support vessel WINGMAN. This luxurious fleet, which includes amenities like a tennis court, helicopter deck, and private cinema, was a topic of interest around the city. The multi-week stay of such a high-profile vessel in San Diego Bay not only drew attention for its opulence but also for an incident involving an intruder, who was arrested after attempting to board the yacht. This event sparked local curiosity about Zuckerberg's activities in San Diego, possibly hinting at a deeper connection to the city beyond this recent commercial shoot.

We reached out to Location Manager Josh Hughes and the San Diego Film Office's Special Events & Filming Department for more information but did not receive a response by the time of publishing.
