Dive Rooftop Bar & Restaurant To Open As Part Of Coronado's Incoming The Bower Boutique Hotel

The Bower Coronado, a newly reimagined boutique hotel, is poised to make its grand debut in early 2025 and will feature 39 guest rooms with prices starting at around $600 per night, a rooftop bar and restaurant named Dive, and a meticulously crafted aesthetic that combines retro charm with modern sophistication.

Originally opened in 1956, The Bower property was once a modest 15-room hotel sited on the grounds of the former Japanese tea garden of the John D. Spreckels Mansion. For decades, it was managed by the mother-daughter duo of actress Bettye Vaughen and Dulcie Trowbridge until Vaughen's passing in 2016. In 2017, downtown San Diego-based J Street Hospitality acquired the property and embarked on a vision to transform it into a luxurious retreat that respects its storied past while embracing contemporary hospitality standards.

The Bower Coronado spans four levels, including a basement, and aims to welcome guests with an intimate, personalized arrival experience. There will be no traditional check-in desk - instead, patrons will be greeted with curated snacks and beverages of their choice, setting the tone for a stay that prioritizes comfort and individuality.
Rooms, which start at $644 per night, are thoughtfully designed with features such as Juliette balconies, dog-friendly patios, 55-inch televisions, Le Labo bath products, Dyson hair dryers, and premium minibars. The design aesthetic draws inspiration from the Zen Buddhist philosophy of Wabi-sabi, celebrating natural beauty and imperfection through serene, minimalist interiors. Each floor will feature a guest lounge stocked with gourmet treats, including locally sourced fruit and freshly baked pastries, further enhancing the sense of intimate luxury.

Dive, the property's rooftop bar and restaurant, will offer contemporary California coastal cuisine alongside panoramic views. The menu will emphasize fresh, locally sourced ingredients, with highlights such as Lemon Pepper Scallops, Halloumi Lettuce Cups, and Jalapeno Eggs Benedict. Patrons can also enjoy a variety of artisan cocktails, wines, and shareable plates, making it a destination for both guests and locals.Ìý
The venue's restored neon diving girl sign and the original Villa Capri sign add a touch of nostalgia to the space. Azul Hospitality, a San Diego-based company with expertise in high-end properties, will oversee hotel operations, ensuring that every detail aligns with the property’s vision.

The Bower is anticipated to open on February 28 at 1417 Orange Avenue in Coronado. For more information, visitÌý.Ìý
