Founded in October 2014 by siblings Andrew and Amy Ballester, Crushed quickly became a Pacific Beach institution, attracting patrons with its inventive menu and laid-back, beach-themed atmosphere. Over the years, the restaurant expanded its offerings, introducing signature dishes like Dragon Brunch Punch bowls and creating a community-focused dining experience. In a heartfelt announcement shared on social media, co-owner Amy Ballester reflected on the decade-long journey, expressing gratitude to the staff, patrons, and her brother, Andrew, for their unwavering support.
"Crushed has been more than just a restaurant; it's been a celebration of life, laughter, and the magic that happens when we come together," she wrote. "The atmosphere has been electric, thanks to the remarkable team beside me. To my incredible staff, thank you for pouring your heart and soul into every dish and interaction. You are the heartbeat of Crushed, and I couldn’t have done this without your unwavering dedication and spirit."
Crushed eventually opened a second San Diego location in the North Park community, which opened in October 2022 but closed less than a year later due to undisclosed reasons. The closure of the flagship Pacific Beach branch marks the end of an era for the Ballesters, who have chosen to commemorate the milestone with a final brunch service from 10am to 4pm on January 5.
The 2,300 square-foot space that formerly housed Crushed, and was previously home to Ciro's Pizza, is through local commercial real estate brokerage Next Wave Commercial. The asking price is set at $200,000.
