Wildwood Flour Bakery Announces Closure In San Diego's Pacific Beach Due To Landlord Issues

After two years of serving artisanal baked goods in Pacific Beach, Wildwood Flour Bakery has announced its upcoming closure due to landlord issues.

Ownership attributed the decision to close Wildwood Flour Bakery later this month to unsustainable lease terms for their location at 1976 Garnet Avenue, coupled with challenges stemming from the building’s infrastructure. The lease terms included a 7% annual rent increase for the next five years and possibly 9% annually thereafter, in a space the owners described as having "no gas, insufficient electricity, no hood system, no walk-in [refrigeration], and insufficient plumbing." Despite these obstacles, WildwoodÌýexpressed gratitude for their tenure, which they credited to the support of their customers and team.
Founded by Noah Orloff and Lauren Silver in 2022 following a successful , Wildwood Flour was born out of owners' passion for baking, honed during their time operating a cottage bakery during the pandemic. The bakery became known for its naturally leavened sourdough bread, pastries, bagels, and a menu that incorporated locally sourced ingredients, including freshly milled flour. It also offered a small grocery section with curated items like handmade cheese, canned goods, and fresh produce. Orloff left the company not long after the opening of the Pacific Beach bakery.Ìý

Wildwood Flour Bakery's last day will be December 22, 2024. Orloff shared plans to take a hiatus in 2025 to focus on farming, crafting a stone mill, and refining Wildwood’s offerings for a future return in a more supportive space.
