Straight Out Of Texas, The World Famous Tin Room To Open San Diego Location

October 27, 2019

A Chippendales-style gay dive bar from Dallas, Texas is opening a tamed-down, all-are-welcome location in San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood, taking over the space last occupied by Brew Project (and short lived Project Bar). The World Famous Tin Room bar and restaurant is opening an outpost in America's Finest City by year's end.

Opened in the Oak Lawn area of Dallas, TX, in 2002 by Marty Hershner, who passed away in 2010, the Tin Room is now owned and operated by Marty's brother Lonzie and his wife Nadine, who also operate several other bar and restaurant concepts in the Dallas area. The Tin Room is a LGBTQ-friendly dive bar known for a staff of scantily clad male dancers, but the San Diego location hopes to be a destination for everyone.

"I really want this to just be a fun hangout spot with great food and something fun for everyone," explained Tin Room owner Lonzie Hershner. "I have three other bars in Dallas that all cater to the LGBTQ community, so I'm trying to mix them all into one bar for San Diego."

The World Famous Tin Room will soon install in the 3,200 square-foot, 1902-era Craftsman house at 3683 5th Avenue in HillcrestÌýthat last housed Project Bar & Grill. In addition to a full bar, there will also be a food menu filled with Texas favorites like giant burgers, smothered wings, steak and fries and hot links. There will also be anÌý887 square-foot outdoor patio that will likely be a hot spot for weekend brunch. The Tin Room aims to open by this December.Ìý
