Opening this week in the space that last housed Tostadas in San Diego's North Park community is La Catrina Tapas & Cantina, a Baja-style bar & restaurant opened in partnership with the owner of City Tacos.
Previously set to be named 'Ambrosia', La Catrina Tapas & Cantina is a partner project between City Tacos (and now-defunct Tostadas) owner Gerry Torres and Sonora, MX-native Roger Canez, who owns Burrology in North Park and Sonora Express Meat Boutique in Tijuana. La Catrina hopes to bring a taste of Baja's Valle de Guadalupe wine country to San Diego and will serve a menu designed by Animalón chef Brandon Rodriguez, who consulted on the project. The 40-seat eatery will serve a seafood-heavy menu of modern, coastal Mexican dishes, as well as local and Baja craft beers and California & Mexico-sourced wines. For the first month, former Pujol chef, Omar Ramirez, will be leading the kitchen on Friday nights.
La Catrina Tapas & Cantina will open atÌý3139 University Avenue in North Park on Friday, October 19 and will operate daily from 11:30am to close. For more information, check out the menus below.
