Over the weekend San Diego’s gastronomic destination of Little Italy finally unveiled Piazza della Famiglia - a 10,000 square-foot, European-inspired community gathering place and pedestrian hub that will eventually be used to host farmers markets, concerts, and cultural events. The project will be a mix of public, residential, retail and restaurant space, including over 100 apartment homes, an ambitious food hall, an Italian restaurant, a new breakfast-focused eatery from Consortium Holdings, and much more.
Piazza della Famiglia is a development byÌýÌýthat aims to become the new "heart" of San Diego's culturally rich Little Italy neighborhood. Located directly on Little Italy’s main thoroughfare with a clear vantage of the San Diego Bay, the Piazza will be home to two mixed-use buildings - Vici and Amo - which will feature 125 apartments in total and over 17,720 square-feet of retail and restaurants, as well as a food hall and underground parking for both restaurant customers and the general public. The Piazza will effectively be the new "town center" for neighborhood celebrations and for all of Little Italy's nationally-recognized events, including the new Ìýcoming in October 2018.
Debuting as early as this summer to Piazza della Famiglia is the
4,685+ square-foot Little Italy Food Hall, which will offer six locally-driven food stations, a mobile outdoor chefs’ area featuring pop-up cooking demonstrations from names such as Sam the Cooking Guy, and a full bar program complete with local beers and craft cocktails. The Little Italy Food Hall is the first project from new San Diego-based hospitality group Grain & Grit Collective. Vendors currently on board includeÌý,Ìýthe Bar at Little Italy Food Hall, Milan-style pizzeria ,Ìý²¹°ù³Ù¾±²õ²¹²Ô²¹±ô ,ÌýNew England seafood sensationÌý, and two yet unannounced vendors.
In addition to The Little Italy Food Hall, the Piazza will include
a second San Diego location ofÌýItalian country-style farm-to-table restaurantÌýandÌýbar Farmer's Table, which will occupy a 7,000 square-foot corner unit. There will also be a new breakfast-centric concept called Morning Glory from Consortium Holdings, the hip hospitality group behind such Little Italy restaurants as Born & Raised, Ironside Fish & Oyster, Craft & Commerce and UnderBelly, that will install in the space above the Little Italy Food Hall. Frost Me Cafe and Bakery - an expansion of Frost Me Gourmet concept known for its award-winning cupcakes - will also be opening a location in the square. There is reportedly still a 1,640-square-foot space that has yet to be filled.
Piazza della Famiglia is located on W. Date Street between India and Columbia Streets in San Diego's Little Italy. For more information, visitÌý.
